Owlpen Manor Wedding

A Spring Wedding at Owlpen Manor in the Cotswolds

Owlpen Manor is hidden deep in the Cotswolds countryside. Its own private little hamlet with the most glorious gardens. They almost given an Italian feeling. Well, especially in the spring and summer.

Having met Henry and Ellie in Leicestershire for the pre wedding session, I knew that these two were not fond of the limelight or all of the attention being on them. This isn’t unusual, I’d say 90% of the couples that book me have very similar opinions. But these two came up with a marvellous idea to ease nerves and get on with enjoying the rest of their wedding day together. A first look. Bear with me, yes it sounds very American and isn’t particularly traditional but I was more than willing to give this idea a whirl. It would take a bit of organising time wise but once its done, the rest of the day was theirs to enjoy.

Meeting the girls in the morning in the Apple loft, I could see that they were well on their way to being ready nice and early, which would be essential to pull off the first look at 1pm before the cermony in the Cyder Barn at 3pm. A quick whizz round in the car to find the boys, in a little cottage called Peters Nest, near enough ready to roll. A few last minute, ironing of shirts and tie tying and we were pretty much good to go. Whilst the boys had a quick tidy up in the cottage I headed back to the apple loft to photograph Ellie’s finishing touches and the emotional first look with her dad.

Henry had perfectly positioned himself in the glorious gardens, which overlooked the breathtaking Cotswolds countryside, eagerly anticipating the moment he would see his stunning bride-to-be. As Ellie gracefully strolled down the path towards her groom, the sun shone brightly, casting a warm glow. At this moment, I really didn’t want to direct anything; it felt only right to let them have their moment and simply observe from a distance. The way they interacted with each other was so sweet and incredibly natural that frankly, there was nothing I could have directed that would have come anywhere near as stunning as what was unfolding. After a few minutes, we moved onto taking a couple of portraits before heading down to the picturesque bridge to meet the bridesmaids and groomsmen for a few group photos. This 30-minute window at the beginning of the day not only calmed Ellie and Henry’s nerves but also allowed for so much more time to mingle with guests while enjoying Prosecco at the reception. It was the perfect start to a beautiful day.

The Cyder Barn was filled to the brim with their loved ones. Now that they had both seen each other already it meant that the ceremony entrance could be a little less traditional too. Henry was walked down the aisle by his parents and Ellie hers. Which was such a lovely way to have your nearest and dearest involved in the special moments. The registars kept the ceremony short and sweet so that everyone could exit the dimly lit barn and head in to the stunning spring sunshine that was waiting outside. As guests filled the gardens, champagne and delightful canapés were served, allowing everyone to take full advantage of the perfectly manicured gardens and the breathtaking scenic views of the enchanting Cotswolds. Guests quickly grabbed their drinks and were off exploring the picturesque surroundings in no time.

On our way back to the charming Pole Barn, I quickly seized the opportunity to grab the newlyweds for a photo by the picturesque lake,

On our way back to the Pole Barn, I quickly seized the opportunity to grab the newlyweds for a photo by the beautiful lake, before their entrance in to the wedding breakfast for speeches and food. Speeches before food are a firm favourite for most people, taking the pressure off the speakers as early as possible and allowing them to enjoy their food and drink without the fear of imminent public speaking.

When the tables are cleared you know it’s when the real party starts! Having thoughtfully planned their own playlist for the evening, they ensured there was something for everyone. All generations were on the dance floor from the very second the first dance had ended until long after I had left. The children were loving flaunting their moves whilst all the adults cheered them on. From singalongs to dance offs, the dance floor was non stop entertainment.

Thank you to Ellie and Henry for having me along. It was a genuine pleasure to spend the day with you and all of your super friendly family and friends.
